Dakota Access donates toward Williams County disaster trailer

Williams County Emergency Management Director Mike Smith has been raising money for a disaster medical assistance trailer. Tuesday he got another $20,000, this time from Dakota Access.

Hess, Oasis and Burlington Northern Santa Fe have made donations totaling $40,000, bringing the total received so far to $60,000. An additional $25,000 has been pledged by other companies, though they won’t be identified until their donation has been received.

Smith is shooting for $100,000 total, and was pleased with the donation.

“Dakota Access pipeline recognizes that our first responders, the majority of whom are volunteers, would be the first people to respond in case of a pipeline emergency, and are the first line of defense in protecting the local communities,” he said. “We are very glad to work with them as neighbors in our community.”

The trailer would be used for large disasters, and is a vital component to being prepared for hazards the county could face.
